NACC attends the 40th Annual Meeting of the APEC Anti-Corruption and Transparency Experts’ Working Group in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea
On February 27-28, 2025, a delegation from the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), led by Ms. Chadarat Anakkaorn, Deputy Secretary-General of NACC Region 1, along with the Director of the Bureau of International Affairs and Corruption Investigation and relevant officials, attended the 40th Annual Meeting of the APEC Anti-Corruption and Transparency Experts’ Working Group (ACTWG) in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea. The meeting aimed to strengthen international cooperation in anti-corruption efforts and establish standards for preventing and combating corruption across the Asia-Pacific region. It provided a platform for ACTWG members to exchange experiences, share best practices, and report on their respective economies’ progress in anti-corruption efforts.
During the meeting, member economies and representatives from international organizations presented reports on anti-corruption measures and developments under the APEC cooperation framework, the implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), and the Beijing Declaration. The discussions emphasized the importance of promoting international cooperation, fostering integrity, and establishing appropriate internal control systems in both the public and private sectors. Accordingly, they highlighted the need for training programs to enhance the capacity of law enforcement officers, strengthened inter-agency collaboration, and efforts to combat corruption and misconduct among public officials to safeguard the well-being of citizens.
On this occasion, the NACC representatives presented Thailand’s best practices in developing anti-corruption policies and promoting integrity within the private sector. They highlighted the establishment of a joint working group between the NACC and the Thai Private Sector Collective Action against Corruption (CAC) to encourage private sector participation in corruption prevention and the implementation of appropriate internal control measures. This initiative includes the development of an action plan to enhance corporate governance in the private sector for anti-corruption purposes.
Additionally, discussions covered the study of government incentives, such as financial products issued by the Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM-BANK), as a means to encourage private sector participation in government-led anti-corruption measures. Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been established between the NACC, the State Enterprise Policy Office, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Thai Institute of Directors, and over 51 state enterprises to develop and enhance corporate governance and integrity in the private sector.
